The happiness that filled the club house of Oscar family hostel on Saturday at
20.00 pm following the farewell party of Olli Olenius on his trip to USA as
an AU pair is something I will always remember and be proud of.
Olli is a son of Varkaus who chose to develop the life of younger ones instead
of going for Military service and his exemplary life in instilling
discipline into the younger one through social service is something I have
personally come to admire.
However I wasn’t surprise when he was recently awarded by the Varkaus city for
his dedication and hard work. Indeed he deserves it. I am saying this
because; I personally got to know Olli when I had the chance with my
Africans friends to talk to the teenagers on morality at the Lutheran
church. This is because it not everybody who is interested in this kind of
social service but I can confidently say that, it is one of the way of
showing love for your country and community. Personally I found it difficult
because allowing your life to reflect soberly on others is not something to
be joke with. It is a real challenge. Its need hardworking, dedication and
patience before one can fully accept this responsibility.
Actually, Konskosa was happy to see most of the youth at the fare-ware party
to dance their waist off and give a pat on his shoulders as he leaves the
shores of Varkuas for United States .I will never forget the night because
the kind of dance exhibited by both his Finn and African friends really put
a smile on his face. Kokonsa couldn’t dance because he was so inquisitive to
at least know whatever happens. hehehe.
In a personal interview with Olli, to know how he feels of his journey to
U.S.A. as an AU pair, he replied with a broadly smile and said, “I'm so
excited about it! Truly waiting for it to happen!” However, Kokonsa’
eagerness to know the kind of challenges he faces during his one year stay
with the teenagers, he proudly said, “I didn't have any much difficulties.
Well it's always a challenge to get along with young people who are not your
peers. But my advice to people who want to do social service (non-military
service) is to be of themselves and give off their best to accomplish their
mission”.
Olli, therefore have in mind of pursuing higher education at Helsinki
University after his return to Varkaus.
Kokonsa will therefore like to advice his follow peers who are interested in
Social work is to follow his footsteps and join hands together and reflect
soberly on the younger ones because they are the future leaders. It is
always good to show the child the way he should go, so that when he grows,
he doesn’t depart from it.
Kudos Olli and have a safe journey. I will really miss u!
Shalom
