Kokonsa nearly missed the Vappu flight

The volcanic ash crises that cropped up on Vappu night left many “Vappu passengers” stranded including Kokonsa at Z1, Rammari and Oscar club house when they tried to board a flight to join in the celebration of Vappu festival. It took Vappu airline engineers couple of hours at all the club houses in Varkaus to control the Vappu passengers who were all anxious to force their way into the club. Kokonsa was lucky to have been saved by a Good Samaritan who came out from the club, only to be replaced by Kokonsa. This left a smile on Kokonsa face when he had a chance to dance his waist off on the dancing floor at Oscar club.

The competition on the dancing at Oscar and Z 1 was so tough that Kokonsa nearly became a bias referee. I don’t know whether it was because Kokonsa was a youth. But the “old girls” were vigilant and un-reluctant to accept the defeat and how I judge the dance. Infact, the youth did their best in exhibiting all the skills to take the trophy but the “Old girls” prove to the younger once that “old dog can’t be taught new trick”. I nearly concluded that the dance of the "old girls" were off track to  the rhythm of the song but Kokonsa was made to understand that rhythm has nothing to do with dance when someone is little stuck with “ogogoro” .

Honestly, to me, the only contender of Vappu is Juhannus in Finland. Unlike Labour Day in other countries Vappu is exceptional. It’s a real happiness day I have personally witnessed. It’s a celebration according to Finnish calendar of spring, Labour Day and students’ day.  I wish other people would travel to Finland on Vappu to witness real Finnish culture. I was totally shocked to see the number of people on the streets of Varkaus, clad in many colours , old school dress and graduation cap with their beautiful colourful  hair styles to climax the day. I felt at home and forget the Labour Day in Ghana too because Labour Day in Africa can’t compete with Vappu.

Actually, I can’t wait to see Vappu festival coming next year again and this time I must get my own flight which will not make me become stranded at the Z1-Oscar airport in case there is “triangular wedge across the sky”.

Shalom!
